AGING WITH VISION LOSS: EXPLORING EVERYDAY ACTIVITY CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION

Abstract Vision loss can impact the health of older adults on multiple domains, including physically (e.g., mobility challenges), psychologically depression), and socially isolation). Older with vision loss, particularly those long-term are likely to experience challenges in performing Instrumental Activities Daily Living (IADLs), as these activities often require abilities like reading, fine motor movements, navigating. We conducted structured interviews 60 aged 60-79 for at least 10 years about their select IADLs household tasks, transportation, shopping, finances, managing health). An analysis in-depth interview data revealed specific challenge themes associated engaging different IADLS, such accessibility, physical limitations, assistance from others, communication, finances.
